Warm Home Discount 2026/27: who gets £150?

The scheme reopened in October for winter 2026 to 2027. Most eligible households don’t need to do anything, but it’s worth checking.

How it works

The Warm Home Discount is £150 off your electricity bill, not a cash payment. If you prepay, your supplier may give you a top-up voucher instead. If your supplier provides both fuels, you may be able to have it on your gas bill.

Who qualifies

  • England and Wales: households getting the Guarantee Credit part of Pension Credit, and low-income households on qualifying means-tested benefits. Most get it automatically and receive a letter.
  • Scotland: you may need to apply to your energy supplier.
  • Northern Ireland: the scheme isn’t available.

Other help this winter

  • Winter Fuel Payment: £100 to £300 if you were born on or before 27 June 1960 (taken back if your income is over £35,000).
  • Cold Weather Payment: for each 7-day cold spell, if you get certain benefits.
